Black Horse Motel
Philadelphia-based Americana band Black Horse Motel conjures a sound that draws on traditional folk roots, along with many other influences, and ties it together with unifying vocal harmonies. Songs are built on the foundations of folk music, but are elevated by an infectious blend of the traditional banjo and mandolin, with guitars, strings, drums and voices. The resulting sound is dexterous, rich, accessible and toe-tapping. Black Horse Motel have performed at Musikfest, Philadelphia Folk Festival, and many of Philadelphia's popular venues, including World Cafe Live, Kung Fu Necktie, Tin Angel, Milkboy Coffee, Boot & Saddle, and Underground Arts. Black Horse Motel have been featured as live performers on several radio programs, including Gene Shay's Folk Show on WXPN, Folkadelphia on XPN2, and Y-Not Radio.
Rare Spirits
Rare Spirits serves up high-proof Roots music with verve, humor and aplomb. Sweet harmonies, rolicking rhythms and an electric stage presence combine to sing songs of drinking, cheating, lying, stealing, shucking, jiving, killing, dying... and the occasional haunting. Their specialties include an ever-evolving set of music relating to Prohibition, presented with historical anecdotes. Bring the kids!
